Michelle Gaskins

Therapist, MA, LPC

As a therapist, I consider it a privilege to walk alongside people as they explore their identity, seek healing, and strive for change. I believe that everyone has a story to share and that there is great value in engaging your narrative in a way that is compassionate, curious, and hopeful.

I am passionate about working with couples seeking to improve their relationship and individuals struggling with interpersonal conflict, identity development, communication, life transitions, self-esteem, grief, and chronic pain.

Taking steps towards change can be difficult. I believe that counseling allows individuals to view their past and present in a new light, and provides opportunity to draw meaning and purpose from struggles. I help individuals identify new insights, tools, and skills that move them toward a more holistically healthy life. I am always changed by the process as well.

My Approach

My therapeutic style is integrative and draws primarily upon Emotion-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I’m trained in EMDR and in Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), a mind-body approach that helps the brain interpret and respond differently to signals from the body and disrupt ongoing chronic pain cycles.

EMDR is a type of therapy that is used to help individuals reprocess memories and experiences. Sometimes memories are not adequately processed which can cause distress and unwanted physical or emotional symptoms. However, our brains have the ability to reprocess memories and change how they are stored which can reduce or get rid of these symptoms. During EMDR therapy, we use what’s called bilateral stimulation to tap into the brain's natural method of reprocessing.
